I went through my first textbook and separated all the two syllable words into tone pairs. The word nerd came up. I'm doing it now with my second textbook. I've been called worse.

The "shenme" example, that is, the combination of 2nd and neutral tone, sounded as if the "me" part of "shenme" was a fourth tone instead of neutral. However in the last two pronunciations of "shenme" it sounded more neutral. I was a bit confused at first.
