Very impressive introduction to this addition to your already very interesting and masterly taught Mandarin course. I am looking forward to attending those classes and seeing how you will tell little stories to help remember the characters. I also like very much and welcome the new setting for this part of the course. Your helpers have done a wonderful job in animating your examples, which make your explanations easier to recall and fun to watch.

Hope we would all double our efforts. Sincerely hope that all your studies will reach the apex, accomplishing each of your goals!

I'm about 60% through the Intermediate Course, but the deeper I go the more I feel very behind, especially in vocabulary. I see that it is recommended to take the Character Course after the Beginner Course. If I pause my Intermediate Course and go through the Character Course, will I build a lot of helpful vocabulary?
hybridremix 1 year 5 months ago
The Character Course does take words from the Beginner Conversational and Intermediate Conversational courses, so that could help you out. Are you using the Study Schedule to help you study and review?
Micah at Yoyo Chinese 1 year 5 months ago
Yes, I follow the Study Schedule to the letter every week. It just feels like I am not retaining vocabulary well enough to keep pace like I did during the Beginner Course and at the start of the Intermediate Course.
hybridremix 1 year 5 months ago
Hi, we understand the Intermediate Courses are longer and contains more material so that may be why you are struggling. That's why our team is working on adding on more features such as flashcards, quizzes and reorganizing our Intermediate Course Lessons to make them shorter, so please stay tuned! Thank you for understanding.

I am new here in beijing and i have just signed up here as premium member but i cannot watch any of your videos... :-( Are the audio reviews have the same content as those in the videos?
csvidallon 1 year 7 months ago
Thank you for signing up at our website. We are sorry about the technical difficulties. Unfortunately, this may be caused by the Great Firewall of China, you would need to use a VPN account to get access to our video. The audio review only covers the vocabularies and sentences part of the video, there's no detail explanation. If you wish to have a refund, we'll be happy to refund you. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it causes.

I love your style! I have been following the Beginner Conversational Course. How long do you recommend one should wait before beginning the study of characters, how far into conversation?
Donald56 1 year 9 months ago
The prerequisite of the character courses is the completion of our beginner conversational course, or at least have the basic spoken Chinese. You may refer to Lesson 5 of the character course series 1 for more detail. Hope that answers your questions.

Thank you very much again for another great Chinese lesson! Your lessons are priceless to me, who's planning to pursue a career in China. Here, I wanna ask some questions about Cantonese. 1. Which version of characters does Cantonese follow - abbreviated or traditional? 2. Is it necessary to learn Mandarin first before learning Cantonese? 3. Is it possible to survive in Hong Kong only with Mandarin and English? That is, is it necessary to be Cantonese-communicable to get a job in Hong Kong?
DoMyBest 2 years 3 months ago
Thank you for the nice comments. People from Hong Kong use traditional Chinese. It's not necessary to learn Mandarin first before Cantonese. It's absolutely possible to service in Hong Kong with only Mandarin and English. Most people from Hong Kong know how to speak Mandarin, though may be with an accent. Hope that answers your questions. :)

I'm excited as I began the beginner class few weeks ago and I realize how visual I am and pinyin is kinda difficult for me. It doesn't make sense to learn "sound" by english language, memorize them and then put what I've learn on chinese character. I always thought that it would be easier if I began by characters. Though, could someone explain to me how similar simplified and traditionnal chinese characters are? My boyfriend is from Taiwan, I would have love to learn traditionnal characters.
Jess.sunshine 2 years 3 months ago
Hi Jess.sunshine. Would you please checkout our lesson 5 that discusses simplified Chinese vs. traditional Chinese? We hope that answers your questions. Feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
